Vienna was fantastic! We loved it! Loved loved loved it!
On our first full day there, we went to Schonbrunn Palace. It is a massive complex, and I am sure there are a million things to see and do there, but we spent all of our time at the...
...Kindermuseum. It is a very hands on section of the palace just for kids, to help them understand the world the imperial children lived in. It is the best museum for children I have ever seen. Ever ever.
There were closets and closets full of period costumes for kids to try on. Oh sure, I had to get past the part where I was totally grossed out by the kids wearing clothes and hats worn by thousands of other children, but once I did it was smooth sailing.
Less gross was the nursery. The kids had a great time trying out all of the toys (replicas, of course) once used by the royal family in Austria.
They also had great fun playing with the items in the servant's quarters. Hopefully they learned a thing or two they can apply to their chores at home!
The wig room was also a bit hit.
The girls spent quite a bit of time at the hair styling table.
Lily was very proud to have tied a bow all by herself for the first time.
Owen and Krista spent some time learning the fine art of blood letting. In this case, they were using magnets to represent the leeches and had to figure out where to put them. Next time, on to the real thing! Any volunteers?
Afterward, we spent about a half an hour running through the gardens. They were beautiful and the kids loved them because they had high hedges with many twists and turns like a maze. If it hadn't been 38 degrees outside, we could have looked around there for hours.
After the museum, we went for dinner at a very cute courtyard restaurant.
It was a long but very enjoyable day.
Sweet dreams, big Mike!
