Our House

I was not initially a huge fan of our hotel in Krakow. It is kinda run down, the floor is a bit dirty and it could really use some air conditioning. It makes all kinds of noises, and if you have to go to the bathroom at night you could wake the dead with the squeaky floor. Did I mention that we had to lug all of our bags up three very long flights of stairs and have had to climb those same stairs many times every day since? Did I also mention that at night, when you are only halfway up the first flight, the lights go off? Not a great feature with four small kids. However, this place has really grown on me. It is perfectly located for us to walk to everything we want to see and do and a short walk to the bus stop if we want to venture further. There is a small market where we can get water, bread, fruit and anything else we need (meaning chocolate) a few doors down from here. Plus, it has a great view of the Teatr Slowackiego Theater (http://www.krakow-info.com/slowacki.htm) which is especially pretty at night.
Old Town (which is where our hotel is) really comes alive at night. There are many pubs and nightclubs in this area. Think Whyte Ave. or Jasper. For us, this generally translates into drunk people making noise outside our windows while we are trying to sleep. However, sometimes it works in our favour. Tonight we are being treated to a really great live band performing in Polish across the street (most bands we have heard sing in English). Here is a picture of Krista listening while lounging on the windowsill. Doesn't she look positively European?
So, for now I am willing to overlook the chipped paint, communist era gas stove and garage sale furniture and just be happy with all that this crazy apartment has to offer. I mean really, how can you beat the ambience and the view?
